Easy experienceThis glitch requires a 25 Speech skill level. Go to Camp McCarran, and talk to Angela Williams in the science lab. Choose the 'I have some questions for you.' option followed by the 'What's your role here?' option. After she answers, choose the 'What do you think of Dr. Hildren?' option. After she answers, choose '[Speech 25] He seemed focused on results. Maybe not so much on people.' You will get 28 experience points each time you do this, and it can be repeated as many times as desired.
This glitch requires a 30 Speech skill level and neutral or friendly with NCR. Go to Camp McCarran, and talk to Sergeant Bitter-Root. You should be able to find him in one of the tents. Ask him about his name, and then there will be an option for a 30 Speech skill level attempt. You can keep saying 'Bitter-Root. You have an unusual name.', and each time you say it, you can do the Speech attempt again. Simply say 'Bitter-Root. You have an unusual name.', do the Speech attempt, ask to talk about something else, and then repeat the process as many times as desired.
This glitch requires a 30 Speech skill level or the 'Confirmed Bachelor' perk and friendly with NCR. Go to HELIOS One, and the woman should automatically talk to you. Once she allows you access to HELIOS One, you should be able to start the 'That Lucky Old Sun' mission. Proceed with the mission, and talk to Fantastic and Ignacio Rivas. While talking to Rivas, make sure you get him to reveal that he is a Follower of the Apocalypse by using Speech or Confirmed Bachelor, and agree with his ideals about peace or say you are neutral. Do the mission regularly until you get to the point where you activate the Mainframe Terminal. Configure the Power Grid to '5. Full Region (Emergency Output Level)'. Finish the mission by hitting the Reflector Control Panel outside on top of the tower. Go back to Ignacio Rivas, and choose the 'I overloaded the plant. No one...' option. That option will never disappear. Keep selecting that option to get 350 XP, 3 Stimpacks, and 2 Doctor's Bags.
If your Speech skill level is 50 or higher, you can persuade Old Ben to offer his escort services to the local bar. You will get 61 XP each time you complete this Speech Challenge. If you follow him back to the bar afterwards and wait until he sits down, you can speak to him again and repeat the same Speech Challenge as many times as desired. You can find Old Ben sitting by a fire close to The King headquarters in Freeside.
This glitch requires a high Speech skill level and 8 Intelligence skill level. Go to the Camp McCarran Terminal building inside Camp McCarran. Talk to the guy at the far end of the building, in the left corner. He is the leader and gives you multiple quests. Accept the interrogation quest, then go meet the woman upstairs to start the quest. When you get in the room to talk to Sirus, pick the 'Intelligence' option first, the 'Speech' option next, and then the 'Intelligence' option. Any of the three 'Intelligence' options work. Then, select the 'Speech' option (which should now be grayed out), and cycle through the 'Intelligence' options. You will get 50 XP every time you cycle through the options.
Go to Vault 11, and you will get a quest to find out what happened there. Once you get the overseer's passcode and enter it into her computer, you will be led to the 'sacrificial chamber'. Use a Stealthboy to get past everyone, and when the walls on the left open (as you walk in), go into the door and access the computer mainframe. You will be given three options, 'Override' and 'Download' for two conversations. Select the second download to get 500 XP. Do not exit the mainframe. Just keep selecting that option to get 500 XP each time. Repeat this as many times as desired.
This glitch requires a 35 Barter skill level. Go to Cottonwood Cove (in the southeast corner of the map alongside the river). You will meet a man named Aurelius of Phoenix (he sometimes wanders out of the camp). Speak to him, and choose to barter with his camp for ammunition and supplies. Select this option will get you 35 XP. Keep selecting that option to get 35 XP each time. Repeat this as many times as desired.
This glitch requires a 35 Medicine skill level. Once you gain access to the main strip, find Victor outside the Lucky 38 Casino. He will tell you that Mr. House wants to meet you. Follow him inside, and go up the elevator. Speak with Mr. House (the giant television face that looks like Howard Hughes). Find the dialogue choice pertaining to needing to ask him a few questions. Then, ask 'Who exactly are you, Mr. House?', and choose 'You appear to be a computer, not a man'. Next, select the Medicine skill check response, 'The lifespan you're claiming is impossible, except for ghouls and super mutants.' You will then get 35 XP (or 39 XP if you have the Swift Learner perk). You can repeat this as many times as desired.
This glitch requires a 50 Barter skill level. In 'The House Always Wins, I' quest, when you meet Mr. House for the first time, he will ask you to get his chip. When he tells you the deal is 1,000 caps, refuse it. Keep refusing his offers after bartering until he tells you to come back. After you talk to him again, select the following choices: 'Tell me your terms again?', 'The chip is worth far more than that', then 'Still not interested', and repeat as many times as desired.
Gamble in a casino, and play roulette. You will get 100 XP no matter if you win or lose.
Infinite capsGo to the town of Primm, and successfully complete the 'My Kind Of Town' quest to get them a new sheriff. Wait 3 to 7 in game days for the Vikki and Vance Casino to open again in Primm. Then, go to the Vikki and Vance Casino, and either win as many chips as possible from gambling or exchange as many caps for chips as possible. Go to the cash register to trade the chips in for caps. You will get the equivalent for the chips in caps, but you will still retain all your chips. Simply keep trading in the chips for caps to get as many caps as desired. Note: This glitch was done on an unpatched version of the game.
Go to a weapons and/or armor merchant, and see if they have two of the same weapon or armor for sale. If you can afford it, get the overall most expensive item at the lowest condition. For instance, if they have two Raider Sadist Armors at 45% and 76$, but also has two Flamers at 20% and 8%, then choose the Flamers. Purchase the cheapest of the two items, and then immediately sell it back to the merchant. Buy it again, and sell it back to them again. Usually the second, but sometimes the third time, you buy the same item from them, and it will appear in your inventory at 100% condition. Sell it back to them, and it will reappear in their inventory at the original low % condition. Buy it again, and it will appear at 100% condition. Repeat this until they have no more caps. If you wait three days after they run out of caps, they will have new stock and approximately 650 caps. The longer you wait, the more robust their inventory will be and the more caps they will have. Note: This glitch can cause the game to freeze. It is recommended you save your game often when doing this just in case the game freezes.
Successfully complete the 'Wang Dang Automatic Tango' quest to find Fisto, a Sexbot. Then, go to Silver Rush Casino, and talk with Fisto next to the roulette table. He will offer his services. Choose the 'No thanks' response to get 10 caps. You can keep selecting this answer as many times as desired to get 10 caps each time.
Play the 'I Put A Spell On You' quest (you start the 'I Put A Spell On You' quest through the Caesar's legion quest line), and complete up to the part where you blow up the monorail and have to go talk to Colonel Hsu. Note: Make sure you have successfully blackmailed Private Crenshaw first. You will have the option to tell him who blew up the monorail. After you tell him who it was, you will have to provide proof. Tell him Private Crenshaw had explosives and plans for the operation bearing Caesar's emblem. He will award you 100 caps. You can keep doing this to get 100 caps each time. -From: SummerSinner
Easy capsIf you lose in any of the gambling games and then reload your saved game, the game will force you to wait 30 seconds to prevent you from cheating. However, there is a way around it. When you are at the slot machines, do not exit slot machine mode to reload your game when you lose. Instead, once the wheel stops spinning and your results are shown, pause the game and reload your saved game. As long as you do not exit slot machine mode before reloading, you will not be forced to wait 30 seconds after reloading. To make easy money, try the slot machine at its maximum of 200 tokens. Never try more than twice at a time. If you lose both spins, just reload your saved game. If you win one of the two times, save your game and continue. Note: This glitch was done on an unpatched version of the game.
In Guardian Peak, you will meet an NCR soldier who is wounded. Through some Speech checks, you can get him to give you his gun for escorting him out of the cave that he is in. When you get to the entrance of the cave with him in tow, he will speak, and you can keep asking him for his rifle, which he will give you along with ammunition. Note: This is best done after getting the perk that allows for over encumbered fast travel.
Free repairsThe following glitch allows you to repair all items to the player's current repair level without using any caps. You first must have the Confirmed Bachelor perk and enough caps to cover the repair cost of the item. When you arrive at the Mohave Outpost to get the pardon for the new sheriff of Primm, during the conversation with Major Knight, a Confirmed Bachelor speech option is available. Select it, and whenever you do repairs through him, the item will get repaired to your repair level, but no caps will be deducted from your inventory. This can be very useful when combined with any of the 'Infinite caps' glitches, and results in your player having all items at 100% condition (even items like the Fat Man, where replacement parts are difficult to find).
Infinite magazinesGo to Old Mormon Fort in Freeside. Find Julie Farkes inside the Fort. Choose the dialogue option to help them get medical supplies. Go through the dialogue options to hear one that tells you that she just got a shipment of magazines. Then, choose the 'I have some medical supplies to drop off' option. There will then be three options; choose the 'Rad-Away' option, as it is the easiest one of the three to find. You only need to leave one thing if you do not care about fame. Every time you give them something, you will gain more fame. After you give them the supplies, choose the 'I'd like to buy medical supplies' option. There are a few aid supplies there that you can get if desired, but they will not regenerate. In the supply list, you can find the magazines. Buy any desired magazines, and then exit. You can then choose the option to give med supplies again. This time you do not need to give them anything; simply choose the 'Never mind' option. Go back to 'Buy medical supplies', and you can repeat the process for more magazines. You repeat this as many times as desired as long as you choose to drop off supplies first. You can even come back to do it again at a later time. You can get the following magazines: Fix-in' Things (Repair +10), Lad's Life (Survival +10), Meeting People (Speech +10), Programmer's Digest (Science +10), Salesman Weekly (Barter +10), and Today's Physician (Medical -10).
Easy killsPurchase or find the Anti-Material Rifle. Then, equip it with incendiary rounds. Target an enemy or enemies with it in VATS, then close VATS. You will not use any ammunition, but they will still be on fire and lose health. You will not aggro enemies or friendlies. Also, you will not lose Karma or Reputation with each kill. This glitch is very useful if you need to kill a NCR/Legion that has a weapon or item on them. Note: This glitch was done on an unpatched version of the game.
Easy stealingFind a place to hide that is out of the line of sight of all surrounding NPC's, and save the game. Then, pick up an item by pressing [Z], and drag it to your hiding spot. Once it says you are 'hidden', press [E] to add it to your inventory. If you lose any Karma, reload your saved game, and try again. A good place to do this trick at is Gloria Van Graff's energy weapons shop in Silver Rush, Freeside. You can do this with any of the items on the counter, and there is a hiding spot on the back side of the room.
Easy SpeechThis glitch requires a 20 Speech skill level. Talk to the 10 of Spades in Camp McCarren. You may first need to find out about Corporal Betsy's trauma. Start a dialogue with him, and select 'I heard about what happened to Corporal Betsy', then 'Tell me what happened'. The next options will be the Speech Check or 'If you were unconscious, how could you have done anything?' Do the Speech Check, and then the other option will be the only one available except 'Never mind'. After you select the unconscious option, the Speech Check will be available again, but grayed out. However, you can still keep pressing [E], and they will alternate. Even though the Speech Check is grayed out, it still counts as a pass.
Easy Hacking, Speech, and Stealing bonusesSave the game before starting a dialogue with a Speech bonus, hacking a computer, lock picking, or pick pocketing. Then, simply reload the game if you fail the challenge.
Easy hackingTo always hack successfully, go to the terminal, and save the game. Then, start the sequence. If you fail, just reload your saved game, and try again until you do it successfully.
Only use three attempts during a hack, so you leave yourself with one to back out. Then, go back to the attempts screen, and you will have four more chances. Repeat this as many times as desired. -From: Brett Grimes
If you move your cursor throughout the symbols, sometimes you will highlight a group of symbols that you can enter as the password. They usually start with '(', '<', '[', or '{', have different characters in the middle, and end with the same symbol that it started with, except in reverse, such as ')', '>', ']', or '}'. This will completely refill your password attempts, or delete 'dud' words. -From: Brett Grimes
Repairing weapons for freeSell any weapon that is broken to the Gun Runners. You will receive 0 caps. Accept the sale, and then buy it back for 0 caps. It will be fully repaired for free. -From: Chris Greffe
Killing people without getting bad karmaFind a large object that you can push or pick up. Drop it next to a standing NPC that is not leaning against a wall, doing push-ups, or sitting. Run against the object, and it will damage the NPC without them becoming hostile or you losing reputation. Repeat this until the target is dead. Note: You may take some damage, and the object might fly away.
Getting better itemsFind a vendor that has two of the same items, but different quality. If you buy the cheaper quality item, you will still get the higher quality item.
Skipping directly to the stripIn Camp McCarran, you can gain entry to the monorail that goes directly to the strip. Take the long way around, and stay as close to the vending machines as possible. Follow the wall around the back way. Make sure the other soldier has his back to you. Crouch and sneak up to this soldier. You may hear the phrase indicating that if you get any closer, they will have to shoot you. However, as long as you remain hidden, it should only flash 'Detected' briefly a few times. As soon as you are close enough to the door, you can go through it and take a monorail directly to the strip. This may require a few attempts. Be careful when returning to the monorail from the strip, as you will probably be shot. However, as soon as you enter the monorail, it resets, and you can again ride it back to the strip again. By using this glitch, you can bypass many annoyances and quests, and skip directly to meeting Mr. House and finding the person who shot you.
Stealing all 37 gold bars ('Dead Money' DLC)Note: This trick requires a few C4 and a Detonator. In the final part of the 'Dead Money' downloadable content, you will enter a vault with 37 gold bars weighing 35 pounds each. Each gold bar is worth 10,539 caps. You are not supposed to be able to take them all; however, this glitch allows you to take all 37 gold bars. Enter the vault, and the door will lock behind you. Take everything in the room that you want including the 36 gold bars on the table to your right and the gold bar on the Overseers desk. Deactivate the security system, and activate the computer on the desk. Then, only read 'Vera', and do not access the file that shows up after you read it. Elijah will appear on the monitor; convince him to meet you in the vault. When the conversation ends, the door will unlock. Leave the room immediately, and walk to the far right stairway. A blue force field will appear blocking your path; lay the C4 at the bottom of those stairs, and then press your body against the blue force field in the doorway. When Elijah finishes speaking, he should switch places with you. Make sure he is on or very near your C4. Detonate the C4, and then leave the way you came. You should now have all 37 gold bars worth a total of 389,943 caps.
Chinese Stealth Armor locationEnter the offices in Hoover Dam, and find the room with radiation signs around it. In that room are barrels of goo. To the left is a stack of crates. One of the crates contains the armor. There are two sets, so you can make repairs.
Desert Ranger Combat Armor location ('Honest Hearts' DLC)The Desert Ranger Combat Armor is in Zion, Stone Bones Cave in Sorrows Camp in the 'Honest Hearts' bonus downloadable content. It is the best non-power armor in the game, and has no faction connections.
Spacesuit locationGo to the REPCONN rocket factory where the 'Come Fly With Me' mission takes place. Go to the basement where Chris goes when they are about to launch the rocket and asks for spare parts. In this room to the left side as you enter is a shelf with an orange suit and a helmet that resembles a fish bowl. Pick them up. When you wear them, they look like something from a 1960's comic book. The Spacesuit gives a good amount of RAD resistance, but has a low DT and breaks easily.

Since the Legion has broken his legs, he cannot chase after you when you pick his pocket, nor will he fight back. You can repeatedly enter and exit out of the general store if caught and place items in Boxcar's inventory, then steal them back until you have gotten the 'Artful Pocketer' achievement. If you do not want infamy with the Powder Gangers, create a new saved game before using this trick.
Easy 'Outstanding Orator' achievementWhen you have a Speech 40 skill level, go to Camp Golf, by Lake Las Vegas. Accept the quest from the sergeant. Agree to O'Hanran's method, and convince everyone, with Mags being the last. After convincing Mags to play nice, accept her method, and go to the gun range. Help them with their guns (45 skill level required), and wait for them to start walking back to their tent. Talk to Razz, and ask about squadmates. The speech challenge should still be there. You can easily get the 'Outstanding Orator' achievement, as well as experience points in increments of 40. When you are done, talk to the sergeant to complete the quest or talk to O'Hanran and ask about the squad. Note: You have the option of helping them with explosives after the guns.

One of the greatest build-it-yourself items in Fallout 3 was the Rock-It Launcher. I swear, I found the schematics for it like 3 or 4 times.
However, I've made it all the way through New Vegas twice now, and can't seem to find it. Where can I find it? Or, did they get rid of it?

It was cut before launch. I believe it's floating around in the game files, and if so, it should be fairly trivial to mod in if you're playing on the PC.

I found the schematics in the Mess Hall on Nellis AFB. I have yet to find a Leaf Blower, however. When I use a workbench, it does not appear on the list of things I can craft, though I don't know if that's right. I am on my first play though, lousy repair skill and I've never played fallout before. I can see the recipe in my pip-boy.

YouTuber Many A True Nerd did not rest on his laurels after beating Fallout: New Vegas on a single health bar last March. Instead, he upped the ante and decided to continue the run on New Vegas DLC. It seemed all but certain that he would die during this new portion of the run, given its challenge. Somehow, though, Many A True Nerd survived. Barely.
Some recap, in case you haven’t been following this. Early this year, we reported a story about a player who completed the main game of Fallout: New Vegas without ever healing. No Stimpaks, no radiation recovery, no fixing crippled limbs, no companions (unless required by the game). Just one health bar, which constantly dwindled down. As the game actually heals the player at 0.66 HP per in-game hour, Many A True Nerd kept a “true health bar” counter at all times that calculated the “real” damage he had taken throughout the run. It’s probably the most hardcore thing anyone has done in a Fallout game, ever.
He started the whole thing with this spread on a character geared for sneak, speech, and guns.

At the end of the main New Vegas storyline, Many A True Nerd had 260 out of 445 health points. From there, Many A True Nerd started out with the Honest Hearts add-on, and went on to Old World Blues, Dead Money, and Lonesome Road in that order. He finished with, I kid you not, 23 health points out of 525. There were a lot of close calls throughout the run, especially since the DLC is significantly more challenging than the base game.
In Honest Hearts, Many A True Nerd had to constantly deal with enemies lurking in hills, particularly snipers. These enemies are often so perceptive, they’ll know the player’s position even if they are completely hidden at 100 sneak. But, it’s also worth noting that MATN has also played the game a few times already—so he has a good sense of where enemies will spawn, their routes, what they will be packing and what line of sight they will have. He even knows the minutia of what enemies can open doors, and how the game saves the enemy position. The character he plays—hilariously named “Please Don’t Shoot”—was built to dole out ridiculous sneak criticals that can one-shot common enemies. The level of mastery at display here is incredible. You’d think this would mean that the run was a piece of cake, but that’s not the case at all. One health bar means every single hit, no matter how minor, counts. And, as it turns out, you can be the most knowledgeable player of Fallout: New Vegas, but that won’t save you from getting hit every once in a while. It’s a ruleset that almost transforms Fallout: New Vegas into a tense game of survival horror.

“One of the most exciting bits actually came from Honest Hearts, just making my way across the map during the final battle,” Many A True Nerd told me. “It’s the most vertical map in all of New Vegas, and the game regularly spawns snipers [on] top of hills. I chose to handle it at night, to stay hidden, and the game makes it rain for dramatic effect, so I’m down on the ground, trying to spot and take out snipers that have been specifically placed to spot me first, all in awful visibility. That counter sniping was pretty cool.”
Rocket Launcher In Fallout New Vegas
My favorite bit, however, is probably the part during Honest Hearts where he strips naked and rushes into a dangerous portion of map to pick up an item. Taking off bulky armor meant that his sneaking stats improved, but it also rendered him completely helpless—it would have been easy to accrue a bunch of damage because of a stunt like that. He does it anyway, just to keep things interesting.
“I knew early on that I wanted every part to have some form of fight or threat in it,” Many A True Nerd said. “An episode where there was no possibility of taking damage could have become dull.”
Midway through Old World Blues, Many A True Nerd actually dropped to half health. Worse, he accrues enough radiation that it becomes more dangerous than health loss. He picks up a perk called Atomic!, which gives him +25% move and attack speed, +2 damage threshold, +2 strength, and potentially better action point regeneration—the idea being that, if rads were unavoidable, he could at least make the sickness beneficial in some other way.
Despite its dangers—he racks up 40 HP of damage in this part of the run--Old World Blues actually ended up being his favorite DLC of the lot.
“It does a great job capturing a sense of being in a massive adventure playground, with loads of little labs and caves dotted about,” Many A True Nerd said. “It’s supposed to be cache of amazing old world secrets and it’s designed perfectly to match that idea, with unique weapons and armor throughout. It also does a great job of mixing some of the best humor in New Vegas with a dark story underneath, from the real reason the brains are so detached from reality, to the prison camp, and the signs of madness in Higgs Village.”
Things really got intense during the Dead Money portion of the run, however. Many viewers and Kotaku commenters didn’t actually think Dead Money could be done. Hell, even Many A True Nerd didn’t seem sure it could be done, either. The thing about Dead Money is, it has a lot of environmental hazards, along with devilishly tough enemies that cannot be headshotted. Portions of the map are drowning in poison clouds that can damage the player. The game itself takes away all of the player’s gear, and replaces it with its own—which meant that Many A True Nerd couldn’t optimize his kit. Ammo is scarce. There are segments with “gas leaks” that present unavoidable damage to the player. Some characters will actually turn on the player if the player tries to pull off speech checks they’d normally be able to nail. And, to top all of that off, the player also gets a slave collar that starts a 10-second timer any time you get close to certain radio frequencies. Once the timer reaches zero, it explodes. This, obviously, is no good for a souped-up permadeath run.

It’s so tough, the game itself even warns you before you go in:

Many A True Nerd’s Dead Money Let’s Play is excruciating thanks to his detailed style of commentary. Before going into any area, he breaks down every danger to him within that space, which builds up a ton anticipation. “If I can make it through this one, it will be an absolute miracle” he said partway through a Dead Money video.
Hilariously, even the companions turned into liabilities during Dead Money. At one point, the character “God” actively goes after an enemy that Many A True Nerd wasn’t planning on engaging—thus drawing him into an unwanted battle unprepared. He wastes precious ammo on the completely unnecessary encounter. Aggravated, he puts God into passive mode—but the damn AI actually ignores this, and then proceeds to go after the enemy once more. Dead Money has no shortage of terrifying segments like this, which could have easily ended the entire adventure then and there.
Unexpectedly, mines—a weapon that no enemy can see, even when piled sky high—came to the rescue pretty often during Dead Money. Reaching the casino allowed Many A True Nerd to play Blackjack, and the Blackjack winnings were used to purchase a ton of mines. These mines were then used to preempt the game’s enemy spawns, many of which were placed rather unfairly throughout levels. Many A True Nerd even kills Dead Money’s final boss entirely through mines, without ever having to set an eye on him.
By the end of Dead Money, he has 143 hit points. The viewers are at this point trolling on every single comment section of his videos, often trying to trick others into believing that MATN died during that episode. Others were so incredulous that MATN had made it that far, that they were sure that he was hiding something, perhaps cutting around sections to make it look like he survived things he didn’t.

“There’s only so much I can do,” MATN told me. “I’ve shown the in-game stats screen that shows the character never gained any health from stimpacks, food, water, etc, and as far as possible, I put up major fights as unedited segments without cuts. Some people leap at any cut at all (and I challenge them to commentate for several hours without taking the odd sip of water), but without cuts, the series would feature huge amounts of inventory management, loading screens, merchant dealing, etc.”
Eventually, MATN makes his way into Lonesome Road, the final stretch of DLC. In preparation, he equips Esther, a mini-nuke launcher. Given that rocket launchers do splash damage, this seems like a pretty poor choice, no? The thing about Esther is, holding it gives the player +10 damage threshold. This means that Esther could potentially allow Many A True Nerd to survive a deadly blow. He also makes sure to pick up the YCS/186 Gauss rifle, a particularly powerful weapon with high damage output.
Going in, it’s clear that his character is a complete beast. Even so, he still comes across enemies during Lonesome Road that can survive sneaking critical hits—the DLC is no joke.
At one point during Lonesome Road, an enemy spawns in front of Many A True Nerd with a rocket launcher. The enemy cannot actually see MATN, but it is scripted to shoot a rocket at a particular wall no matter what—so MATN gets hit with splash damage. It’s pretty minor damage—6 HP—but its enough to put MATN on his last limbs. By episode 42, many commenters seem convinced that MATN would die by the next episode.
And then, the elevator ride happened. It’s a segment of the game where the player is stuck on a moving platform, and the game regularly spawns Tunnelers on this platform—these are enemies that, within the lore, are supposed to be more fierce than Deathclaws. Deathclaws! Better yet, the player accrues radiation throughout the elevator ride too. It’s a segment that puts MATN at risk in a variety of ways.

“The elevator ride is well known as an evil part of the DLC,” Many A True Nerd said. “I decided to just activate a stealth boy and hide in a corner. That was until one of the Tunnelers came too close, and I felt I had no choice but to get the first shot in with the Gatling Laser. He died, but suddenly all the other Tunnelers knew where I was. And I hadn’t planned to fight them. After what had been countless hours of planning, after a good 40 weeks of work, and within sight of the end of the DLC, I wasn’t following the plan. It was just me vs some of the toughest enemies in the game, when my health was low enough that they could have killed me in one hit.”

One of the enemies actually does hit MATN for a whopping 88 hit points, dropping him down to a measly 36 HP out of 520. This is in episode 42 out of 45, in a DLC where many of the enemies can theoretically one-shot him. “I will now die if I take another hit,” MATN said in the video. “I need to play this game perfectly for the remainder of the DLC, or I die. That’s it.”
“I’m going into this one fully expecting him to die,” one comment read. It didn’t help that in addition to being nearly dead, MATN was accruing too much radiation.

“I’m not just counting my hit points at the moment,” he said in a video. “I’m counting my rads, too. And my rads are at a hundred and eighty one. Only 19 of 200. If I have 200, I have minor radiation poisoning. If I have minor radiation poisoning, I’m minus 1 endurance. If I’m minus 1 endurance, I lose 20 hit points.
“If [I get 19 more rads], I have failed. That’s the rule..I said I was gonna count radiation, all along,” MATN said, fully aware of how anticlimactic it would be for the run to end because he stepped on the wrong puddle or patch of mud. But it’s exactly that strict adherence to rules that makes the run so interesting in the first place. For example, there’s a part after all that commotion during the elevator ride where MATN comes across a helmet that grants +10 health. Initially, this makes him explode with happiness. 10 hit points could make all the difference, and allow him to actually finish the run! Then he remembers that, technically, wearing this helmet would be healing himself. So he tosses it. It’s excruciating logic, followed to its chilling conclusion. The commenters agonize over it, and even disagree with his decision. But he keeps to it anyway.

“I can hardly watch,” one viewer wrote on episode 44. You can tell the pressure is getting to MATN by then, too—he ties to tell the viewer that he is “intensely relaxed” because he managed to level up one more time before the final bout, which gives him a few extra HP, only to then proceed to freak out a bit during the video. He notes that he just needs to do the final battle perfectly. That’s all. Just..play through one of the toughest parts of New Vegas without any error whatsoever. No big deal!
In the end, he waltzes into the final battle with gear oriented for maximum damage, not defense, amazingly enough. It looks completely absurd:

“Screw the power armor” he says at the start of episode 45. You can watch how it all goes down here:
Or, if you’d like the play-by-play..basically, he prepares for the final encounter by putting mines everywhere. Once the battle actually starts, he pops a stealth boy and goes on to snipe enemies as they swarm into the room. All the while, Ulysses—the final boss—is crouching nearby unaware, at arm’s length. Things are so intense, that every shot that MATN misses feels like a heart attack, especially when the level itself is exploding and many of the enemies are cloaked. It’s just complete chaos.

Somehow, though, he does it. He finishes the final battle of New Vegas without taking a single drop of damage, with a final health counter of 23 out of 525. It’s one of the most cathartic things I’ve seen in a video game all year.
Here’s Please Don’t Shoot by the end of the series—a complete monster in terms of stats, yet she was almost brought to her knees because of a single health bar. Holy moly.

MATN finishes the video series by rushing Quarry Junction, a highly-feared Deathclaw haven that many players avoid during vanilla New Vegas. He demolishes every single Deathclaw gleefully, as if they were Radroaches. There’s no real danger at this point anymore—he’s completed the run. He can one-shot nearly everything in there. Or they can kill him, too. It doesn’t matter anymore. He then follows that up by taking Please Don’t Shoot out for dinner with a Deathclaw wasteland omelette. Finally, he “retires” the character by taking her to a place with a nice view, and equipping her with a nice dress. MATN figures that she deserves it after a year of such intense trauma.

“The save file is only about 75 hours, but far more time than that was spent meticulously route-planning and discussing strategy with other members of the Fallout community, especially for Dead Money and Lonesome Road,” MATN told me. These members of the community even included people who worked on the game. MATN claims that a developer who worked on the game helped him with said planning “on occasion,” as he had “understanding of how the game worked under the hood.” Every little bit helped make this run possible, despite all odds.

“[Finishing the run] felt surreal.. I don’t think it sank in immediately,” MATN said.
“A series that [takes an entire year to complete] becomes part of your life—especially as you see how many people care about it. I’ve seen amazing fan art. One guy made a Mod so that PC players could have the ruleset forced on them. There have been messages of support from people who treated this series like it was a favourite TV series, people who all watch it together as a group of friends, even people who have told me the series was a welcome distraction during some dark times in their lives.”

“To have done it is one thing,” MATN continued. “But knowing how much it meant to some people is the incredible bit to me. For me, though, it’s genuinely sad to see it end, even under the best possible circumstances.”
Next week, Many A True Nerd plans on doing a YOLO run for Fallout 3. Given his track record, I suspect it’ll be a good time.

A rocket launcher is a shoulder-fired missile weapon that fires unguided explosive projectiles. The projectile nature distinguishes it from missile launchers, which fire a projectile with some onboard guidance.

Models[edit | edit source]
Rockwell BigBazooka[edit | edit source]
Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel
Manufactured by Rockwell, the BigBazooka is a shoulder-fired anti-tank and anti-armor missile weapon, firing an unguided, fin-stabilized rocket. It is a classic design, with the rocket loaded into a reusable launching tube with a shock absorber and launched using a deluxe 3 pound trigger and tracker mounted on the tube. It is a line of sight weapon, requiring the operator to manually acquire and fire the weapon.[1]
Red Glare[edit | edit source]
Produced in limited quantities for trials and evaluation at the Hopeville and Ashton ballistic missile complex, the Red Glare was designed to embody the shock-and-awe doctrine. Rather than using bulky unguided missiles, the weapon was designed to use miniaturized explosive rockets, loaded in canisters of thirteen. The canisters were designed to be portable and easy to carry, for easy reloading.
This was necessary, as the Red Glare was a fully automatic rocket launcher, capable of expending its entire canister downrange in just a few seconds, allowing for saturation bombing. To maintain accuracy, the tracker module allows for image magnification and enhancement, for more accurate long range engagements. Finally, it was designed to be portable: When not in use, it will collapse its components down, reducing its dimensions by over 30%.

SPOILER ALERT for anyone who has yet to play this game or its DLCs.
Courier 6 of the Mojave Express starts out as a simple delivery courier, delivering messages and packages across the wasteland that was at one time known as the Mojave Desert of Nevada, but is now the Mojave Wasteland of 2281.
For the purposes of this discussion, we will be assuming the Courier is maxed out in every stat, and at their peak in every way, at least in regards to what is possible in the game.
Feats: With the Main quest, important side quests, and DLC, and dialogue in mind, The Courier is stated to have traveled from as far as California, to Utah, to Nevada, to even Denver. By walking. In addition, the Courier has at most, convinced 2 factions that would today be the size of small countries to leave Nevada, as it is the Courier’s territory now, kill the most influential and powerful person in all of New Vegas, Mr. House, and convince five different tribes/factions to assist the Courier in the creation of a new nation.
DLCDead Money: The Courier survives in a villa where their only allies are a mostly deranged super mutant, a mute woman, and an old world zombie singer. Also with a collar around the neck that explodes if too close to a radio. And poison gas that covers the entire villa which kills in seconds. And the inhabitants, which are feral humans who don’t die until you cut their limbs off. Also the Courier survives this and then kills the guy who brought them there, freeing themselves, and stealing a lot of gold and money.
Honest Hearts: Later, the Courier walks to Utah, enters Zion Canyon, and assists two entire tribes in evacuating from their enemy tribe, the White Legs. Also has to survive the wildlife. Although to be totally honest, the Courier and Joshua Graham, a man who was set on fire, thrown off the Grand Canyon and survived, could have easily killed the White Leg tribe. They are given the choice not to because it would ruin the innocence of the Tribes they are trying to evacuate. The Courier either chooses to destroy the White Legs or convince Joshua to let them go, as if Joshua is not convinced, he goes on to kill the entire tribe.
Old World Blues: Later still, the Courier is abducted and taken to an old world laboratory where the best and brightest scientists in the old world researched new and innovative methods of winning the Great War, which caused the Fallout world to be the way it is. The Courier then battles corpses locked in suits that force them to kill others, robotic scorpions with lasers for stingers and crusher claws, and a bigger version of said robotic scorpions, which is strong enough to tank shots from the hand held mini nuke launcher. Oh right and brainless test subjects who have long since gone insane and have opted to kill the Courier. Also The Courier has been lobotomized, and is thus, brainless, spineless, and heartless. Which on the plus side, gives the benefits of being undetectable by enemy robots, immune to poisons and drug addiction, and can no longer be crippled and gives a permanent strength bonus. Although you do get the option to retrieve the original body parts at the end.
Lonesome Road: Lastly, the Courier enters The Divide, a ravine in the earth, formed when hundreds of kiloton-megaton yield nuclear warheads exploded underground when they received an activation signal and their silos failed to open. The land is extremely hostile, the weather alone features sandstorms that tear the flesh off of people unless they’re covered head to toe in armor, and bathed in enough radiation to kill in minutes. Also it’s inhabited by ghoulified (basically zombies formed by radiation) soldiers called marked men, armed with machineguns, rocket launchers, miniguns, Anti-Materiel rifles, you name it. Also their health regenerates in radiation. And don’t forget the Tunnelers, mutated humanoid creatures that can rip apart even the marked men and deathclaws easily. For context, deathclaws are mutated creatures with enough strength to cleave men wearing full combat armor in half. Also the Tunnelers breed fast, hunt in packs, and it’s implied they will eventually make their way from the Divide to the rest of the world, and undoubtedly kill a lot of people. In the Divide, the Courier, alone, fights all of these and more, and fights the man who it turns out, is responsible for causing a lot of problems, from being behind why the Courier was shot and almost killed at the start of the game, to being responsible for almost every problem in the aforementioned DLCs. Ulysses also has a 10 in every S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat (see below) and is assisted by robotic drones which heal him and hurt you. Also he wields an automatic 12.7mm submachinegun and behind the Courier are the marked men, who want to kill him. Anyways, the Courier, badass he is, wins and then either hacks into a computer and stops, redirects, or targets the major factions in the Mojave with enough nuclear missiles to damage the surrounding area for up to a century.
Durability: To give an idea of how many hits the Courier can take before going down, the game starts with the Courier being shot in the head twice at point blank range with a 9 millimeter handgun, being buried, and then dug up several hours later and then surviving the surgery with either no or little brain damage.
S.P.E.C.I.A.L.: Standing for Strength, Perception, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck respectively, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system is the Fallout game’s method for judging a character’s overall stats. It maxes out at 10 for each, meaning it is impossible to have a perception of 11 and so on. If completely maxed the courier is able to:
Strength to carry at most, 400 pounds of equipment, while still maintaining the ability to run and jump very quickly. Outright intimidate most people as the Courier is strong enough to take on super mutants in unarmed combat and win.
Perception that can detect hostiles long before they are in visual range, and assists in landing devastating shots on enemies.
Endurance high enough to make fighting deathclaws in close quarters combat survivable and winnable.
Charismatic enough to intimidate mercenaries that fighting the Courier would be worse than fighting almost 10 feet tall mutants with machineguns and rocket launchers. Or to convince an army general to take his entire army and leave the most strategically important device in the entire Mojave, Hoover Dam. Oh wait sorry, The Courier is able to do that TWICE.
Intelligent enough to hack into U.S. Military grade computers, shut down hostile combat robots, and in general makes him one of, if not the smartest human in the entire wasteland in terms of common sense, knowledge, and wisdom.
Agility allows the Courier to, with the help of the Pip-Boy 3000 computer on their wrist, entire a sort of bullet-time trance to target enemies with lethal efficiency, draw a weapon in the blink of an eye, and does exactly what it implies: makes the Courier the fastest, most agile threat on the battlefield.
Luck is one of the most important stats, maxed, the Courier is lucky enough to blind fire with a horrendously inaccurate weapon at enemies, and still score devastating hits, whereas the hostiles would constantly be missing and only scoring glancing hits. Most famously, Luck is used to gamble at the casinos and win so many times they forbid you from gambling. Can perform surgery without actually knowing anything and perform it successfully. Guess a password on the first try and get it right. Han Solo level luck.
Skills: Should a skilled player max out his potential, (They cap at 100, sorry about using this image that plies it goes above that, couldn’t find any others.) he is capable of becoming the best sharpshooter, mechanic, survivalist, doctor, and locksmith. He is also a master at bartering, the handling of all types of energy weapons, melee weapons (extremely deadly with anything, from a sledgehammer to an industrial strength cutting torch) the use of explosives, one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable scientists in the world, sneaky enough that s/he is all but invisible, could convince almost anyone to do anything with a maxed out speech skill, and could beat just about anyone in unarmed fighting.
Equipment: The Courier is capable of acquiring and utilizing power armor. To give an idea of how strong Fallout power armor is, in lore, it was designed to replace main battle tanks for the United States. It was extremely successful. Not only that, there are other armors, Riot armors, which are light enough o allow the user to remain agile and have built in night vision, but are still very much bulletproof and durable. He gains access to the Tesla cannon, which can disintegrate anything in one shot, or if it can’t, it badly scorches it. Hand-held nuke launchers, missile launchers, gatling guns, .50 caliber AM rifle, plasma and laser rifles/pistols/artillery pieces, grenade launchers/machine guns, flamethrowers, Arc welders, time bombs, landmines, C-4, chainsaws, knives, swords, spears, Throwing axes that destroy robots on contact, a sword that is on fire and coated with gasoline, piston based power fists, a thermic lance, a railgun, and so much more. Also as mentioned before, if the Courier is maxed, the Courier is a master at using every single one of those weapons I mentioned, and many more, those were just the most powerful ones that come to mind. Also he gets a drum fed fully automatic rocket launcher at the end of Lonesome Road, so there’s that.
Miscellaneous: Should the Courier opt to (which we will say s/he will as this is a peak courier) the Courier has the opportunity to become a cyborg. As in, purchase cybernetic implants that increase every S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat by one. Then proceed to buy implants that allow accelerated regeneration from even the most grievous wounds, and strengthen the skin to the point of where while its not bulletproof, the Courier’s skin is now durable enough to take hits that would normally leave bruises and cuts and now show no noticeable damage at all. Furthermore, if the Courier travels to the Big MT, they receive Implants that allow them to move much faster while sneaking, remove radiation from drinking contaminated water, and regenerate from wounds and replenish adrenaline when simply eating food. Oh right, and a bonus damage stat against cazadores, the mutated wasps that can kill a grown man with one sting. In addition, through other side quests, the Courier has seen some truly horrific things, from an isolated community being told they had to elect to kill one of them or they’d all die, to fighting abominations like the night stalker, cazadore, deathclaw, tunneler, marked men, ghost people, and more. Courier 6 by the end of the game should the player take both violent and diplomatic methods, killed thousands of armed soldiers, aforementioned abominations, and much worse. It is a wonder that s/he is not afflicted with PTSD after all they have been through, yet the Courier fights on.
Side note: The Hostile life forms of the wasteland are nothing to laugh it. The vast majority of people on earth today don’t have a chance in hell at surviving a single week. I mean, aside from fire breathing geckos, spore carriers, giant ants (they also breathe fire), giant scorpions with nigh bulletproof carapaces and fatal stings, and feral ghouls, they’d still have to contend with living in what amounts to the Mojave Desert. Except now with more gamma radiation, more bandits, less safe communities, and other horrific fates that await the unaware in the wasteland.
Img 1:
Super Mutants also deserve an honorable mention. A long time ago before the war, a company called West-Tek was hired by the United States government to produce bioweapons. One of which was called FEV, forced evolutionary virus. It transformed humans into things like this (img 1). The newly christened super mutants were formed in some remote locations in the midwest, but more notably, the east and west coast. Although the East coast variants suffered from a decrease in overall intelligence, the ones the courier encounters are of the West coast variety.
The West coast super mutants are strong enough to tank entire magazines of ammunition, wrench the gun out of whoever fired at them, and beat them to death with it. They are also insanely smart, moreso than a regular human. They are in general far more capable at enduring injuries, and their physical strength is easily five times that of a human, even strong ones, and are considered to be a massive threat to even veterans.
Unless of course, you’re motherfucking Courier Six, in which case, if you so desire, you get the option to take down an entire army of super mutants twice, once at Black Mountain, and once at Jacobstown.
Admittedly, the average wastelander would only really encounter half those things, but the Courier meets swarms of all of them, and wins every time.
Remember the deathclaws? To put things in perspective, in lore standards, T-51B Power Armor is strong enough that a single soldier wearing it was strong enough to take on military occupied camps and teams could slaughter bases with very little difficulty.
A Deathclaw could cut power armor soldiers in half with one strike.
Oh right, and to add to feats, at one point in the game, The Courier, alone, walks into a massive quarry that’s filled with at least 20 deathclaws, an alpha deathclaw, a mother deathclaw, and her babies, and he doesn’t win, he destroys them. It wasn’t even a contest. If you so wished, a player could do it unarmed, and still win.
Oh right, and perks. Some of the best perks in the game include solar powered, which regenerates HP in sunlight and makes the Courier much stronger, Grim Reaper’s sprint, which means the more people you kill the faster you get in combat, Rad absorption, even if severely poisoned with gamma radiation, the Courier loses this radiation rapidly over time. Is smart enough to take tin cans and scrap metal and create bullets out of them, gains MASSIVE amounts of health if he has good karma and is level 50, gains yet another cybernetic implant, this one is not addictive and allows for bullet time. Extremely versatile and can be activated at a moment’s notice.
I would post pictures of what my character looks like, but due to mods my Courier is about 6’8″ And has way more perks is way over the max level limit. So are the enemies but I don’t want to spread false information.
TLDR: The Courier is stronger than batman, has cybernetic augmentations. Is a sharpshooter on par with Deadeye, more charismatic than the most famous of politicians, and as lucky as Han Solo. Courier 6 is OP.
Well, this was my first time on respect threads. How’d I do?
